Songs and Scores
With more than four decades of dedication, music is in my blood.
My musical odyssey began mere months before the assassination of John Lennon.Â
I had received a guitar for my 7th birthday and the Beatles box-set of vinyl LPs soon followed. I ate it all up like a big bowl of sweet, sweet cereal. To be fair, I did not practice much in those early years. I'll put it down to a poor instrument (a classical guitar strung with electric strings several millimetres above the fretboard does no favours). A few years later I received a Premier drum kit. Maybe it is was the right time in my life, but this quality instrument propelled me forward. With this momentum, my drum teacher threw me in the deep end, chairing the Bendigo Symphonic Youth Band from the age of 12. A solid grounding in classical, big-band and movie themes was aided by sight reading of percussive charts.
Moving to Perth later that decade, I dove into the local contemporary original music scene for 30 years, then returned to Victoria in 2016 to pursue my greater artistic vision.
I find music theory valuable, yet wary not to let it detract from the intuition and feel of collaboration. Unsurprisingly, I have found myself attracted to rock music and sound design. This imparts somewhat of a laissez-faire approach to my compositions.
You'll find me equally adept at songwriting, scoring and sound design.
I have the ability to perform several musical roles to supreme standards, though as a degree-qualified and highly experienced Audio Producer, I find little difficulty assembling a cohort of musicians to participate.
If you seek adaptability, all genres entertain me. With the propensity to tackle dramatic orchestrations, contemporary soundtracks, exotic arrangements and sci-fi landscapes, I have you covered.
